Workshop Venue

The Workshop will be held at Kambaikan on the Muromachi Campus, Doshisha University in Kyoto. As the campus is located in the center of Kyoto city, it is very convenient to visit number of famous sight seeing spots including Kyoto Imperial Palace.

The Muromachi campus is a part of Imadegawa campus located on the site where Doshisha was founded 135 years ago. The campus buildings of the Meiji era, such as the Doshisha Chapel, Shoeikan, Yushukan, Harris Science Hall, and Clarke Memorial Hall are designated as cultural properties of national importance. They harmonize with the modern buildings on the campus which were constructed in the Taisho and early Showa eras. These buildings stand as a living museum, a testament to the history and development of university education in Japan through the years from the Meiji era to the present day.

Final Paper Submission

Thank you very much for following the instructions to prepare and submit a final paper. All papers in the program are included on a USB memory stick. Registered attendees will receive it upon check-in/on-site registration desk.

Final paper submission instructions in PDF

To be presented at the workshop and then published in IEEE Xplore, the accepted papers must:

  1. have full registration payment on or before May 31, 2012 (JST) by at least one of the co-authors, even if all co-authors are students, and even if only student co-authors are attending,
  2. be submitted by e-mail to finalpaper12@mail.doshisha.ac.jp, together with a signed IEEE copyright form and registration receipt No. in 6-digit by June 8, 2012 (JST),

IEEE COMPEL Student Travel Grant

This grant is for qualified student participants of IEEE COMPEL Workshop, and is made available by IEEE Power Electronics Society through the Technical Committee (TC) on Power and Control Core Technologies. The objective of the grant is to encourage student participation in the annual COMPEL Workshop. The grant is managed by the TC in coordination with the organizing committee of COMPEL each year. The grant will reimburse up to US$700 airfare and other travel-related expenses of a student. The number of awards to be made each year depends on the available funds and the number of qualified students. It is anticipated that 6-8 awards will be made for COMPEL 2012.

Interested students should check and complete the IEEE COMPEL Student Travel Grant Application Form.

Travel grant application deadline : April 1, 2012 (Closed)

Flight to Japan

The nearest airport to Kyoto is Kansai International Airport (City : Osaka, Airport code : KIX) to which there are direct flights from Helsinki, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Paris in Europe and Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles in the North America. Also, there are many flights to Narita International Airport (Tokyo), however, it takes more than 3.5 hours to Kyoto from the airport including train transfer at Tokyo. Therefore, it is recommended to take a flight to the Kansai International Airport.

Climate

In Japan, June is a rainy season. The average temperature in June is 23.2 degree celsius, and the humidity is around 60 %. It is better to bring a folding umbrella, but you can buy a cheap umbrella in Japan by 4 Euros or 6 US dollars on a fine day. If rain starts, the price may be doubled.

Money exchange

Money exchange is made only at a bank in a city, an airport and at a hotel. There is no exchange shop such as one in many European cities.
Credit cards (Amex, Visa and Masters) can be used in most hotels, many restaurants and shops. It is recommended to bring cash (Japanese YEN) to buy train tickets, snacks and refreshments.
